Photo: Christopher Kays - The Southern The Carterville Lady Lions rolled through the first three games of the 2017 Rangerette Christmas Classic at Benton High School.  In the first game the Lions beat Union County HS 55-14 and in game two knocked off the Christopher Lady Bearcats 66-32. Friday night the Lions found themselves taking on the number one team in Class 2A, the Lady Bulldogs from Harrisburg. The Lions were within two with just under three minutes to play, but the Bulldogs put them away late in the 65-54 win to earn the Rangerette Christmas Classic Championship. (Photo: Byron Hetzler, The Southern) Carterville Lions 6'7 tight end Luke Ford made his decision on which college he would attend and play football for next season and the Georgia Bulldogs are the winners of the Luke Ford Lottery. Thursday afternoon at a press conference at CHS, Luke, who was surrounded by friends, coaches and his family as he announced that he was choosing to join the current #1 team in the country.   Luke was one of the most highly recruited players in recent memory from the Southern Illinois area, and had received offers from over thirty schools and had recently narrowed the field down to five including Alabama, Texas A&M, Auburn, Illinois and Georgia.  After voicing his choice of schools, Luke signed his national letter of intent, that was immediately faxed to Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs athletic office. Luke, who was number 63 in the ESPN 300 listing of top recruits in the country and was the number two tight end in the country.  The Georgia Bulldogs, who had already been recognized as having the #1 recruiting class this year, were able to add to that group with the signing. I had the chance to talk to Luke and get his thoughts on the signing.   Carterville football head coach Dennis Drust said he was very proud of Luke and that he has the tools that these schools are looking for.
